Q. How long does it take to get the card?
A. Your card can be printed by your computer immediately after you have completed the online form and have paid $59.50 online here..
Q. Do I Need A Photo ID?
A. The Resident Card that you print will be very effective however, you will also receive a Black and Gold permanent card that will be mailed to you in 1-2 weeks. Please make sure that you email us your favorite photo as an attachment.
In order to receive your Photo Resident Card, you will need to upload a 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" size photo during the registration process. If you did not upload your 1 1/4" x 1 1/4" photo during the registration process, then click here to send us your photo:

Please Note:Your photo MUST be 1 1/4" height by 1 1/4" width. You MUST resize the photo to this size prior to uploading. Photos MUST be head shots similar to a drivers license photo.
Failure to upload a proper size photo will result in a delay in process of up to 8 weeks.
Q. Is the Photo ID card secure?
A. Absolutely. The Maui Resident Card is made from materials obtained from NASA research. It is impossible to alter the card.
Q. When does the card expire?
A. It doesn't. It is valid indefinitely.
Q. What if I lose the card?
A. It will be replaced free of charge except for shipping and handling, no questions asked.
Q. Can another person, traveling with me get Kamaaina discounts?
A. It all depends upon the merchant. If the establishment wants to extend the discount they are giving to you, to another person, that is entirely up to that establishment.
Q. Is the Maui Resident Card issued by the Hawaii State Government?
A. No, The Maui Resident Card is issued by Maui Property Owners LLC which is a privately owned company. All property data is available from the Maui Property Tax office and online from their website. http://www.mauipropertytax.com/
Q. How long has the Resident Card been available?
A. Maui Resident Cards were first offered to the public in February 1995.
Q. When does the Card expire?
A. It doesn’t. It is valid indefinitely.
Q. Can I use the Card statewide?
A. You can use it Statewide and also from the U.S. Mainland.
Q. Why don’t you have an email newsletter?
A. We are now making provisions for a monthly newsletter.
Q. Why do I need this card when I have a Hawaii State ID card?

The State of Hawaii Identification card is available to anyone who wishes to apply and wishes to provide sensitive information to the Hawaii State Government.

Q. I have a Hawaii State ID card, but it won't work for discounts? Why is this?
A. No it will not and it is not offered to the public for that purpose. Please read about the Hawaii Identification Card to understand the possible ramifications of obtaining one if you are not a full time resident of the State of Hawaii. The Hawaii Identification Card is generally used as identification at Banks, notarization and for other applications that require State identification. *Please make sure that you read the site thoroughly as it asks for sensitive personal information.
Q. The ID that I purchased is not the same as the one on your website. Why do you have 2 ID cards?
A. One is a temporary card that you may download, and use immediately until the black plastic card arrives in the mail.
Q. Why do you offer the picture ID?
A. The optional photo ID shown on our website is available at additional cost but is not necessary for you to spend additional money to get Kamaaina Discounts.
A. There are two versions of the Maui Resident Card. The photo ID is available at additional cost and is custom made, however, it is not required to get Kamaaina Discounts. Some residents prefer to have a picture ID to use for other purposes.
Q. I am not a property owner but I am a bona fide resident. How can I get a Card?
A. The Resident Card is available to non-property owners as well and we require that they email proof of residency to us. Please email at least 2 of the documents on this list. Please do not fax.
- Copy of Lease or Rental agreement
- Utility bills, Telephone, electric or Cable
- Payroll check stubs
- Checking account with name imprinted
- Hawaii Tax return
- Hawaii voters registration Card
- Vehicle Registration
Q. The golf courses give me trouble and won't give me a discount. Why is this?
- A. Some golf courses discriminate against residents and property owners. They tell them that they must have a Hawaii Driver License in order to get lower rates. We have an entire section on this matter. Please click here
Q. I think it would be a good idea to have a forum so that property owners can Share their experiences and merchants can also post their discounts to card Holders.
A. We do have a forum at the top of our website just for this purpose.
Q. Why don’t you have a feature on your site so that we can print out all of these FAQs?
A. We do have exactly that on our website now.
Q. If a merchant refuses to give us a Kamaaina discount, what should we do?
A. You can spend your money at this establishment or leave. It’s your choice.
